What’s in a name? [Fruity Pebbles]

So I posted new photo to my Facebook page and to my Society6 shop yesterday.  I called it Therapy.  I wasn’t completely sold on the name, but I was drawing a blank and feeling particularly impatient.  It would have to do.

Fast-forward about an hour.  I returned to Facebook to read the comments on my photo, and read the following: “reminds me of fruity pebbles. yum!“

Fruity Pebbles!  I love Fruity Pebbles.

I had actually used the working title of “Skittles” when processing the photo, but for some reason it didn’t stick.  Fruity Pebbles, however?  Childhood joy, breakfast at the dining room table, all those fun colors — yes!  I got a sugar rush just reading comment.

While I didn’t feel like I could change the name of Therapy because I had already posted, pinned and tweeted it, I did have an alternate, wider crop of the same photo still sitting in Photoshop that I could post to this blog — so Fruity Pebbles was born.  Thanks to Gin for the naming inspiration!

On a slightly different note, I didn’t choose this version of the photo initially because I didn’t care for the visible fence behind the tree.  Now I’m looking at it, though, and I don’t mind it so much.  A good reminder to revisit “castaways” with fresh eyes from time to time.  You can see the other version, Therapy, sans metal bar, on my Facebook page.

A few other mentions, thoughts, shares.

  • There is currently a free shipping promotion running in my Society6 shop through Sunday.  The promotion applies only to Art Prints.
  • One of my photos of Discovery Green is currently on the cover of the Here is Houston relocation guide.
  • Is it just me, or are the Best Picture nominees for the Academy Awards particularly entertaining this year?  I’ve seen Agro, Les Miserables, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook so far, and I loved them all.  With respect to Les Miserables, I also thought they did a great job recreating the original artwork, this time as a photograph, for the movie poster.  See for yourself — the theatrical version and the movie version.
  • Are you a sucker for adorable photos of furry animals?  Yes?  Well, here you go!  The photo was taken by wildlife photographer Andrea Zampatti.

Have a delightfully inspiring weekend, everyone!  And find the good.
