School Bus. You know what would make for a great photo? A bunch of children taking recess in an urban setting, a playground, specifically – cement, not grass. Oh, and fog. In Houston, fog typically takes its last breath around 10 a.m., so the likelihood of that kind of photo happening in my town, slim.
What you can find in my town on a foggy morning, empty school buses. You see them everywhere if you keep your eyes open. There are the school bus “graveyards” along Interstate 10, the school bus art cars inside the loop, the random school bus found taking residence on a rural front lawn just south of the city. The empty school bus is a hot property.
School Bus was taken at a lakeside park about thirty miles south of Houston. Presumably, the driver had just dropped off the kids and was waiting for the next “assignment.” It’s not unusual to see school buses at this park, but usually the sound of children’s laughter, swinging bats, well, usually that’s also present. This day it was just me, the foggy silence and an empty, orange bus. Sure, it wasn’t a bustling urban playground, but it would do just fine.
