Nutshell – My photography is very personal to me. I believe those in the creative world would call it “organic.” It starts with little more than my psyche for the day, and it goes from there. Choices made along the way in terms of composition and processing are nothing but passing reflections of my mood. My photos are my diary…in a nutshell.
I chose the photo Nutshell, taken on a foggy morning at the Grand Canyon, because it speaks so well of where I am as I close out 2007. I see the beauty all around me, but in so many ways, it is far removed from my everyday. The fog in this photo represents creeping doubt about the future of things, the cracks represent truth. And, yet, still so dominant is the beauty and amazement that serves as a savory carrot…just off in the distance.
This was a year that I discovered the “layers” function in Photoshop. Another photo, my first major experiment with layers, that just missed the top ten is The Alpha Burden.
