When I think about my super-sized photo archives, I think about three categories of photograph – my personal photos (family, friends, cats, nudes — okay, I made last one up…just trying to keep it interesting), my Hurricane Katrina photos, and everything else. This photo, Going in Circles, falls into the “everything else” category. It’s one of my if-I-were-stranded-on-a-desert-island-and-could-only-save-five-photos photos. Well, that’s assuming that all my personal photos and Katrina photos were safe from elimination. (Why do I suddenly feel like I writing about a reality television show?)
Anyhoo, I had mentioned in an earlier post that I would occasionally post about some of my photography-related successes, resume bullet points if you will. This is one of those posts. In winter of this year, I was contacted by Chris Lockwood of Lockwood Costa Studio. He had seen my work on Flickr and wanted to know if he could use Going in Circles for the cover of the Aurora Picture Show’s spring calendar. Since I consider the photo to be the first photo I ever set out to compose — with intent, with design in mind, with an already found passion for photography — I gladly gave Chris the two thumbs up (R.I.P. – Gene Siskel).
Since then Chris has not only been a great information source, sending me emails every so often with interesting website links, things to do in town, and names of other local photographers, but he has also been a generous supporter of my work, calling on me to shoot some photos for a university alumni magazine (more on that another day). I’m not really sure what I did to warrant his kindness, but I’m really appreciative of it. Check out some of his illustrations if you get a chance.
