Fog Season [Gulf Coast Rural]
I was supposed to be in Palm Desert, California, visiting my dad, this past week, but had to cancel because of health reasons.
Needless to say, I was extremely bummed about the turn of events. I had been looking forward to the visit.
And from a photography standpoint, I had been psyched about going to the Salton Sea and capturing that oddly exciting landscape. If you are unfamiliar with the Salton Sea,
Jody Miller does a great job of capturing it.
But you’ve got to roll with the punches, I’ve always heard, and the “roll” was made a lot easier by morning after morning after morning of fog all week here in Houston. On Monday, Martin Luther King Day, I headed south about twenty miles where the landscape is best described as “Gulf Coast rural.” It’s so different from the urban surroundings I’m used to, but pretty groovy in its own right. Character-filled to be sure.

Not quite of the same style as the other photographs, but photographed the same morning, the next image is my favorite of the year thus far. It’s not always easy to photograph a flock of birds in morning fog, and only Lady Luck will determine if the the birds align “just so” in the photo to make it compelling. This time, with this photo, I think that Lady Luck was on my side.
