Flickr Stats

Flickr recently launched a new feature – Stats! Photographers are able to see not only their stats en total (all time view counts for photos, photostream, sets and collections), but also for specific photographs. These stats have provided a lot of information about the party that’s been going on at my flickr home for the past few years. For example, I always knew I had a fairly loyal following, I just didn’t know quite how large that following was. Let’s just say, I’m going to have to bake another pie and buy more refreshments for my oh-so-appreciated guests.
Here’s a look-see at two of the key numbers…
1,763,624 – All time view count for my photos.
475,713 – All time view count for my photo stream.
Other notables…
With 112,506 views, my most viewed photo of all time, an unprocessed image taken with my point-and-shoot, is
Hurricane Katrina [Awaiting Our Guests]. The image shows the Astrodome as it was being prepared for the thousands of evacuees who would be arriving from New Orleans. 39% of the views came from Yahoo and Google, both of whom featured the photo. Personally, I’ve never really cared for the image because it lacks the human element that tends to move me, but I do understand its historical significance, and I’m thankful to have it in my portfolio.
With 22,263 views, Glamour Girl (seen above), which I have posted twice in my photostream, is my most viewed photo unrelated to Hurricane Katrina. Ironically — or, not so ironically — it is also the subject of my most frustrating copyright infringement episode to date. A bastardized version of the photo was used without permission or notification in a joint advertisement by the Houston Zoo and Fiesta Mart. The ad ran in the front section of the Houston Chronicle, and…needless to say…numerous people told me about it. They have been completely unresponsive to my request for compensation, but I’m not through pursuing that — rightful compensation. On a happier note, this photo is currently on display at the Houston City Hall Annex.
And…from the category “who would’ve thunk it,” a photo that consistently ends up in the top five viewed photos of the day —
Carnival [Colin Farrell]. I had completely forgotten about this photo of a young Colin Farrel look-a-like until I saw it show up as #2 for the day in my Flickr Stats. The photo currently has 11,393 views.
Just thought I’d share.
