My Fort Worth trip was a nice “break” from a busy and stressful few months. I came away with a bazillion photos, most of which, although pretty good, will never stand front and center in Photoshop. One photo, however, not only made it through the photoshop grind, it also made it to my favorites shortlist. Bullfighter represents the direction that I’d like my photography to take going forward. I sometimes fear that this new direction will leave the 450,000 visitors who have embraced my work on Flickr, and whom I appreciate enormously, a bit bewildered, maybe even a bit disappointed. Strong landscapes and vibrant colors have been my signature to date, but, in all honesty, those don’t give me nearly the satifaction that photos such as this, this, and this give me. Of course, there are always those days when we want to be whisked away to some dreamy locale, and on those days, I’m sure I’ll cook up something all rainbow and puppies, but on the “everyday,” I’d like to try something different, something like Bullfighter.
Now for an exhibition update: My photo, Beyond Borders, currently on display at Gallery M2 as part of the 600 Sq. Mi. Houstonist show, was purchased recently by someone. If that someone is you — thank you!
Late edit: I recently found out that the bullfighter in this photo is Jesse Vick. I spoke with him briefly on the phone, and hopefully I’ll be making another trip to Fort Worth in January to take additional photos. A really nice person.
